Need more time to prepare your federal income tax return? We’re here to support you in preparing and filing your extension of time request with IRS. We have information on how to apply for an extension of time to file.
Please be aware that an extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your taxes. April 18 is the deadline for most to pay taxes owed and avoid penalty and interest charges.
With the income tax season winding down, the IRS wants to remind taxpayers how to request some extra time to file their return and the options they have to pay their tax bill.
If you need more time to file your return, you can get an automatic six-month extension of time to file from the IRS. You must file for an extension by the April 17 deadline. An extension will give you extra time to get your paperwork to the IRS, but it does not extend the time you have to pay any tax due. You will owe interest on any amount not paid by the deadline, plus you may owe penalties.
Individual Extension Form 4868/2350.
There are several ways to request an automatic extension of time to file your U.S. individual income tax return. You must request the extension of time to file by the regular due date of your return to avoid the penalty for filing late. An extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay.
If you file the Form 4868 electronically, be sure to have a copy of your prior year’s return; you’ll be asked to provide your prior year’s adjusted gross income (AGI) amount for verification purposes. Once you efile, you’ll receive an electronic acknowledgement that the IRS has accepted your filing. Keep this for your records.
By doing so you could get your due date extended beyond April 17 and the new deadline would be October 15. E-file with www.extensiontax.com is fast, simply, accurate & AFFORDABLE.
Business and Corporations Extension Form 7004.

Form 7004 can be e-filed and eligible for an automatic extension of time to file from the due date of the return. See Form 7004 instructions for exceptions pertaining to foreign corporations with no office or place of business in the United States, for foreign and certain domestic corporations and for certain partnerships. The Form 7004 does not extend the time for payment of tax. Refer to the Form 7004 instructions for additional information on payment of tax and balance due.
If you owe tax with your individual and business federal income tax return, but can’t afford to pay it all when you file, the IRS has options to help you keep interest and penalties to a minimum. File your return on time and pay as much as you can with the return, first step is to claim an extension on time and take your request with them.
