Extra Time to File Doesn’t Mean Extra Time to Pay, April 17 is the last date and use ExtensionTax.com

An extension will give you extra time to file your return, but any tax is still due by the original deadline. An extension can help reduce penalties, but any outstanding balance will still be charged a late payment penalty (0.5 percent per month) and interest (right now at 3 percent annually).

Individual taxpayers can file an extension using Form 4868. Extensions can also be filed online, which has the benefit that you’ll receive a confirmation code from the IRS notifying you that your extension was received. Businesses request an extension using Form 7004.

Note well: While an extension gives you extra time to file your return, an extension does not give you extra time to pay your tax.

Payments are still due by April 17, 2018 for the year 2017. But an extension can help reduce your penalties if you cannot afford to pay in full by the deadline.

If the S corporation is unable to file by March 15, it can obtain an automatic six-month extension of time to file by filing IRS Form 7004. The shareholders who pay tax on the corporate income are subject to the same deadlines the IRS imposes on individual taxpayers, which in most cases is April 15 every year, this year it is April 17.

March 15 Due Date.png

C corporation and S corporation business owners are required to file their income tax returns on the 15th day of the third month after the end of the tax year. For calendar-year corporations, the return is due by March 15. C corporations file corporate tax return Form 1120 and S corporation file Form 1120S.

When you incorporated your business as a Limited Liability Company, you directed the IRS to tax you as a C corporation, S corporation or partnership. file your tax returns by March 15.

If you need additional time, C and S corporations can file Form 7004 and get a six-month extension. Your return will be due on Sept. 15. Do it online at http://ExtensionTax.com for just $9.99 and push your deadline from the actual due date. March 15 Filing Deadline(2)

If you don’t file your corporate tax return after the extension deadline, the IRS will assess a late filing penalty on the unpaid tax amount. The penalty starts from the day the tax return was originally due. The penalty and interest amounts are imposed each month until you file the tax return.

Although an extension gives you 6 more months to file your return, it won’t give you extra time to pay your taxes, which are due on March 15 / April 17 respectively.

Even if you can’t pay your taxes by the deadline, go ahead and file an extension anyway. Doing so will protect you from the late-filing penalty, which can be up to 10 times higher than the penalty for not paying your taxes on time.

Extension of Time to File Your Individual Tax Return

Need more time to prepare your federal income tax return? We’re here to support you in preparing and filing your extension of time request with IRS. We have information on how to apply for an extension of time to file.

Please be aware that an extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your taxes. April 18 is the deadline for most to pay taxes owed and avoid penalty and interest charges.

With the income tax season winding down, the IRS wants to remind taxpayers how to request some extra time to file their return and the options they have to pay their tax bill.

If you need more time to file your return, you can get an automatic six-month extension of time to file from the IRS. You must file for an extension by the April 17 deadline. An extension will give you extra time to get your paperwork to the IRS, but it does not extend the time you have to pay any tax due. You will owe interest on any amount not paid by the deadline, plus you may owe penalties.
